Not All On You - Effervescent

For every person that reaches out to talk about their mental health, there is someone who needs to respond. There is very little out there that helps them to do that and we want to change this.

Not All On You helps young people to feel prepared when their friends reach out for support, and to respond in a helpful way while also looking after their own mental health.

Over the last 6 months we've collaborated with YoungMinds and their Young Activists Ben McGregor (18), Crystal Lee (19), Elia Chitwa (21), Finn (16), Jakob Pegler (18), Jessa Lee (20), Laura Latter (21) and Luke (16) to create the campaign. From the initial idea to the final animated films, the Activists have directed the entire creative process, making this a campaign by young people, for young people.

The project was funded by Arts Council England’s Emergency Response Fund, as a significant contribution to the way that creativity can help people reconnect and recover from the effects of lockdown.

“ I really hope it encourages a much needed conversation of not being afraid to prioritise your own mental wellbeing. ”

Luke, YoungMinds Activist

Impressive Reach

The eight films reached nearly half a million young people on social media, and were watched over 117,250 times on Instagram in the first month.

“ Having a conversation with your friends can make a big difference to their mental health. It is part of our nature to help and support others, but we know that sometimes this isn’t easy, and that’s okay. You might feel overwhelmed or out of your depth. Remember, just by being there for your friend, you have been amazing. We hope that Not All On You will help you with advice and tips to respond to your friend in a helpful way, without feeling overwhelmed and under pressure, while looking after your own mental health at the same time. ”
