In 2014, Effervescent developed the abandoned Halifax Bank on Plymouth Derry’s Cross into a warm, welcoming art gallery, rehearsal/making space, tea room, and creative business incubation hub.
As you would expect from a company focused on creating social change, offering people new opportunities, and making the world a happier place; everything we do here is created and developed with and by children, young people, and adults who need extra nurturing to achieve their full potential.
We are also unique in the UK: we are the only professional art gallery curated *entirely* by children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We curate a mixture of shows about the ideas and issues that local people care most passionately about.
We’re very excited to be joined in our new space by new and old friends Attik Dance, Dom Moore Photography, and Highly Interactive.
We’re very grateful to have received financial support, hugs when it got scary, and practical guidance from Plymouth University, Arts Council England, RIO: Arts Council England’s Bridge Organisation, Attik Dance, and donations from the general public.
We’re doing this on a shoestring, so if you’d like to make a donation to support us, please get in touch with us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
