Project X

Supporting 20 Young People to Reignite their Careers; reengaging with education, employment or training.

Commissioned by Cornwall Council and Real Ideas Organisation, Effervescent spent ten weeks working with ten young people not in education employment or training to help them overcome barriers to work, training and achievement through creative processes.

An intense four week period of creative and cultural training and experimentation with sound, performance art, film, installation and design resulted in the group designing and creating an artwork for a major event commissioned by Arts Council England South West and giving a presentation to 100 conference delegates. After this, a three-week period of intensive one to one personal development with artists and the pastoral manager lead to a further self-directed project by the group: an underwater music video with a premiere event at Watergate Bay, Newquay, which was devised and produced over three weeks.

Transformation: Trial 1 of the programme achieved a 77% attendance rate (compared to an average attendance rate of 40% for courses of a similar nature) and Trial 2 achieved an incredible 89% attendance rate with all the young people going on to positive outcomes in work, further training and higher education.
